We unveiled Avon Medical’s newest 25-bed state-of-the-art facility, and with it, we sent a clear message: we are improving healthcare in Africa.
As I stood beside my wife, Dr. Awele Elumelu, Chairperson of Avon Medical, watching this vision come to life, I feel an immense sense of pride and gratitude.
I believe that true progress requires bold and consistent actions.
From the humble beginning of just a single location work-site clinic, Avon Medical Centre has grown into a 50-bed hospital network and a Dialysis Centre. This is holistic transformation, impacting both lives and Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Taking a few lines from her speech: Why does this matter?
It matters because:
- 48% of Africans still lack access to quality healthcare.
- It matters because Africa bears over 20% of the global disease burden, yet we have access to only 1% of the world’s healthcare resources.
- It matters because too many mothers still die while giving birth.
- Because too many children do not make it to their fifth birthday, not for lack of love, but for lack of care.
This facility is a response to that.
This unveiling demonstrates our Africapitalism philosophy: that the private sector must drive development and lead in solving our biggest challenges, leaving no one behind. We are putting into action our belief that Africans have the solution to Africa’s problems. Through this launch, we are investing long-term in Africa’s healthcare future. This is our legacy: we are transforming Africa’s healthcare journey.
