Tony Elumelu: “My foundation has lifted more than 2 million Africans out of poverty” (My Le Figaro Feature)

I’m a determined and hardworking person with big dreams and a thirst for knowledge. I was born, raised, and educated in Africa. Millions of Africans share these traits. My personal journey would be incomplete without acknowledging the role luck played in my success. In 2010, my wife Awele—a doctor—and I created the Tony Elumelu Foundation, committing $100 million to it. We believed it was our duty to “democratize luck” and provide opportunities to millions of young, dynamic, and creative Africans who have the potential to transform their communities—and, by extension, the continent—if given access, opportunity, and guidance.
